East Alabama Youth for Christ

Giving Tuesday

Local Mission of EAYFC for Giving Tuesday

East Alabama Area Youth for Christ is a local non-profit organization that seeks to reach and serve the lost, unchurched 11-19-year-old youth across East Alabama. Our Juvenile Justice Ministry model is one of the ways we do this. Two of the facilities we serve are the Lee County Youth Development Center and Mt. Meigs Campus. With your help, we can spread some Christmas cheer to those who have a difficult time finding anything to be cheerful about especially during this season.

What we are giving

This Christmas we want to provide all 150 youth in these facilities with an Action Bible. It is an interactive Bible that encourages them to read it. They enjoy the stories that foster greater understanding of the scriptures. Our mission is to expose every youth to the truth of God's word that points us all to Jesus Christ. Additionally, as some of the youth are held within the facilities for an extended period of time, staff work tirelessly to encourage positive behavior. To assist with this, we would like to provide a PlayStation gaming system and games, as an incentive to both motivate and reward consistently good behavior. Lastly, we would like to provide some basic necessities, such as toiletries and socks.

Youth Testimonies from the Detention Facilities

“Before I came to detention I was making bad decisions. The second time I came here I started changing, and that ’s because I got to know Christ. I thank God for helping me, and I have given my life to Him. Now I have the opportunity to share my story and spread the Word to others in detention.”

"I have been to detention three times. It took three times for me to get woken up to how bad my decisions were. The third time I came here I actually started paying attention during Bible studies with Youth for Christ. I began praying and building a relationship with God. While I still struggle with mental health issues, I have hope in Christ."

"Being in detention has gotten me closer to God. I have better influences in my life through Youth for Christ, and these relationships have helped me a lot. I have begun to read the Bible, and step away from the bad choices I was previously making. A verse that has given me hope and encouragement is Lamentations 3:25 "The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him."

"I was addicted to fighting, crime, and a way of life that was leading me to death. God brought me to detention to save me. Everyday He is showing me that there is something greater to life than the way I was living. When I get out I want my life to look different, I want to attend Church and follow God. I know that it may be lonely but all I need is Jesus."

“Being in detention saved my life, not only that but it has gotten me closer to God. Being able to hear God’s word, read the Bible and understand Him. Also going through the hardship that He has given me in order to get through life. If it wasn’t for me getting put in detention, then I would still be out roaming the streets and probably dead because I didn’t put all of my faith in the Lord. Now I am better than ever.”

“I feel like coming back to detention was God saying He wasn’t done with me yet. What He has for me is much bigger than I can imagine. I believe He knows my heart and how I would turn out without this second chance. Youth for Christ has helped open the door to my heart for Jesus, and He has been showing me incredible ways to talk to Him.”
